We found this place – unpolluted, wild and natural, ideal for the creation of the AsvaNara Academy – near Pieve Santo Stefano in the Province of Arezzo, in what is known as the “Garden of Saint Francis”.
It has always been our dream to create a Natural Horsemanship Academy in the tradition of the big American ranches, where we could offer each participant a special, open place to learn – an ideal place to fulfill our mission:

 The Academy is a place where you can breathe freely, where you can really live and assimilate through your skin and your emotions a peaceful, natural atmosphere. Imagine it as an “island” created for the specific purpose of guaranteeing the very best to everyone who experiences it, even if it is only for the brief period of a week. The Academy’s horses live in freedom all year round, in the pastures of Podere Le Querce. Living a natural life, our horses make it possible for us to observe their methods of communication, studying the dynamics of the herd, their social life and their friendships.

Guest horses will be accommodated in large paddocks with shelter, guaranteeing their freedom of movement and natural interaction with other horses. For the duration of the course, each student will take care of one particular horse (either their own or one rented from the Academy) in order to conduct a detailed study of its habits and needs.

 The experience at the Academy is both profound and exciting; the possibility of sharing this with other students is unique and precious. And the friendships you make, born in such a special place, will last forever.
The AsvaNara study program is a journey of personal growth – a mental, emotional and physical transformation.

The aim is to improve the relationship between you and your horse, but the results go far beyond this. Studying the language of a sensitive animal such as the horse will also improve your perception, your relationship with yourself and with all the people around you - your friends and family. The horse is a true catalyst for the growth of a new consciousness, it allows you to express all your emotions, both positive and negative, and to look at yourself in the mirror and discover your true personality.
The horse will help you to abandon limiting ways of thinking and negative beliefs, to live the life you deserve and have always dreamed of!

We offer full-board accommodation, based on the principles of natural nutrition, with organic food prepared as naturally as possible. During the week, you will discover delicious new dishes from all over the world, with different flavors and tastes. Many students, at the end of their stay, tell us that the food and the natural life at the Academy were their highlights of the week, a positive and unexpected bonus!

The Academy makes it possible for you to completely immerse yourself in this atmosphere, without ever having to leave the grounds, thanks to the wooden huts in the shade of the forest. We have six large, simple bungalows, each accommodating four people in the heart of nature. Staying here is like reliving your childhood dreams, taking you back to a time when life was still simple and enjoyable!

The Study Program
AsvaNara is a path that, step by step, leads you to be successful with your horse. Thanks to the acquired knowledge of nature, psychology and equine behavior, you would have the right keys to succeed in establishing the relationship you have ever been looking for with your horse .
Timing, and feeling, knowing exactly what to do at the right time, being present and aware – all that is called Savvy, the instinctive competence, and all that can be learned thanks to the AsvaNara Study Program.
The Program consists of Five Classes – Relationship, Liberty, Fluidity, Atlheticity, Unity– and each class will take two-week study in the AsvaNara Academy to complete, with a regular home practice, in addition to the possibility of consulting DVDs and teaching books.

 Walking along the AsvaNara path, you will develop and increase your Savvy and your Horse Skills will get better and better until you become a true HorseMan. Anyone who sees you with your horse can’t help noticing your change and the skills you have learned…but above all the horse will be the first to notice the difference.
Becoming an HorseMan means the beginning of a path to personal growth, without taking anything for granted, and discovering the pleasure of facing your challenges and of overcoming those which, in your opinion, are your shortcomings.
During the AsvaNara courses, in full nature, you could constantly put what you have learnt into practice and to check your progress. When you come back home, you will feel so full of vitality, that you could live your full potential, both with horses and in every domain of your daily life.

The Five Classes
Class I
Relationship - Building trust and respect
The core principles of any relationship are love, communication and leadership. If you want to establish a good relationship with your horse, it is necessary to use the basic Concepts of Natural Communication, founded on the equine psychology and on the understanding of the nature of your horse.
Class II
Liberty – Finding out the harmony with your horse
Following a natural progress, you can find out the perfect harmony with your horse. With longer ropes, if you apply the Concepts of Natural Communication to the work from the ground, everything will be more and more interesting and exciting, both for your horse and for you. And finally, the true evidence that tells you that your relationship is working well will be the Liberty: will you be able to communicate with your horse without ropes and hackamores, too?
Class III
Fluidity – Flowing with the right impulse
Becoming a true HorseMan means to develop skills like focus, sensitivity, timing and balance, and you will be in harmony with your horse in every moment! In this class you learn to be fluid with your horse when you are on a saddle. Studying your impulse, your horse becomes your true partner: it will move forth when you ask him that and it will stop when you want to stop. All that will happen in perfect harmony, using the impulse of your body!
Class IV
Athleticity - Flying together with your horse
After having developed the emotional and mental part of your horse, you are ready to work with his physical part… in a natural way. If you have a good grounding and you have achieved a good balance between respect and trust, you can face challenges and obstacles requiring serious effort and you can become more athletic, both from the ground and on the saddle.
Class V
Unity – Refining your relationship and becoming one
The last step to become a true natural HorseMan is finding unity with your horse through the refinement of your relationship. Using a natural approach, you will achieve a perfect harmony: your signals and movements will be imperceptible, the unity with your horse will simply be magic.

The Instructors of the academy

Ariane Schurmann
 … she traveled everywhere: she gave support to many Instructors, she walked along her path to Natural Equitation paying careful attention and she gained a considerable and relevant experience.
When she was a young girl, she already competed in dressage; then, she bred PSA and having a German Education on Equestrian Tourism (DWA), she opened a trekking centre on the high mountain. Even if she already obtained a Western Mount Instructor Certificate, Ariane was not really satisfied of the results achieved with horses and thus, 1996 she decided to walk along the path to Natural Equitation.
 Ariane was motivated by a burning passion for horses, psychology, diet and healing and thus, she completed several training courses in all these domains. She is a Journey Practitioner, she graduated at the Master University and she is a Health Counselor. Nowadays she is involved with Edwin in the management of the AsvaNara Academy. Her seminars concern all the aspects of her life experience and they contribute to realize the AsvaNara mission.
Her dream is creating a world where it will be normal to be natural.

Edwin Wittwer
… as an expert, he has worked in the field of Natural Equitation for over 12 years. He was one of the first students to constitute the Pat Parelli’s team of apprentices and he studied with him for four years at the Pagosa Springs University, in the USA.
During these years of study, he has acquired a detailed knowledge of the Natural Equitation techniques, of the foal imprinting and of strategies for dealing with “difficult” horses, and thus, he has become a true HorseMan. Edwin worked all over the Europe, as a Parelli professional, and nowadays, he is devoting his life to the development of the AsvaNara Method; his mission is to convey all his knowledge to as many people as possible in order to improve the quality of their life and that of their horse.
His teaching style is amusing and relaxed, but at the same time progressive and challenging. In a very precise way, Edwin teaches to his students to be natural with their horses, and he shows them the way to become Natural HorseMan.

We sincerely invite you to join us as a Savvy Partner and to take part with us to the extraordinary program of the AsvaNara Academy. 
For many years, our dream has been the creation of a place where man and horse can live, communicate and establish a relationship in harmony and in a healthy way. We encountered many obstacles but nothing could stop us and, after a long and careful search, after three years and after we visited 89 (!) places, we have finally found the “Podere Delle Querce” immersed in the green hills of the Tiberina Valley.
It seems as if this “magic” place has been waiting for us during all these years. It seems as if the place itself has told us how to build, what to put, where, and how to keep all our project natural, simple, and having a deep sense of respect for every living beings.
The people, who have already been here, perfectly know that the only fact of “being here” gives a deep sense of well-being, relaxation and connection with yourself and with your horse. We can’t say thank you enough for enjoying this privilege of living here with our horses.
From 22nd April 2004, we started to build the infrastructures of the AsvaNara Academy. Our project for the next year is to complete the Academy, building five other new bungalows in the Agri-camping and a swimming pool for having relax in the afternoon, so that every week twenty-five students can spend a relaxing and quiet study period in nature. We want to build a new kitchen for the preparation of our delicious natural food and a new clubhouse provided with an Internet Access and other comforts. There will also be a new octagonal-shaped teaching room on the Goldie’s Hill, where we intend to organize several kinds of seminars. And, finally, we want to build 16 other paddock-boxs thought for the students’ horses and a covered horse riding arena (25x50m), so that we can teach for many more months, under the safe shelter of a roof.
We inaugurate the Savvy Partner Program in order to realize our project.
From the beginning our idea was to take this direction, and it’s two years we are following it.
